Stalin’s gulag, impoverished North Korea, collapsing Cuba…it’s hard to name a dogma that has failed as spectacularly as socialism.
And yet leaders around the world continue to subject millions of people to this dysfunctional, violence-prone ideology.
In “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Socialism”, Kevin Williamson reveals the fatal flaw of socialism—that efficient, complex economies simply can’t be centrally planned.
But even in America, that hasn’t stopped politicians and bureaucrats from planning, to various extents, the most vital sectors of our economy: public education, energy, and the most arrogant central-planning effort of them all, Obama’s healthcare plan.
In this provocative book, Williamson unfolds the grim history of socialism, showing how the ideology has spawned crushing poverty, devastating famines, and horrific wars.
Lumbering from one crisis to the next, leaving a trail of economic devastation and environmental catastrophe, socialism has wreaked more havoc, caused more deaths, and impoverished more people than any other ideology in history—especially when you include the victims of fascism, which Williamson notes is simply a variant of socialism.
Williamson further demonstrates:
■ Why, contrary to popular belief, socialism in theory is no better than socialism in practice
■ Why socialism can’t exist without capitalism
■ How the energy powerhouse of Venezuela, under socialism, has become an economic basket case subject to rationing and blackouts
■ How socialism, not British colonialism, plunged the bountiful economy of India into stagnation and dysfunction — and how capitalism is rescuing it
■ Why socialism is inextricably linked to communism
If you thought socialism went into the dustbin of history with the collapse of the Soviet Union, think again.
Socialism is alive and kicking, and it’s already spread further than you know.

Commission is not Socialism. When will Americans grasp this simple fact?

@loonyboyx
I suspect not earlier than you go and learn what “Commission” is (and isn’t):

@Loonyboyx Technically that is not true either, while those terms tended to mean different things, aspects academically, the deeper and more technical you go. Even all those “communist” regime don’t really fit Marxist criteria either. But at the end of the day, it always end up depending on individuals preference of what count and what doesn’t count in their own scope of things.
The issue usually isn’t so much ‘what is what’, rather oppositions will always attribute things that didn’t work to the failure of ‘whatever’. And successes attribute solely to the ideology they support.
In any case this “Politically Incorrect” series seem pure right-propaganda marketed as “Truth”, for people who is already of similar minds.

Socialism was tried in America during the Pilgrim period. More people took than contributed so the system failed. Just because we have smartphones and electricity now does not mean it can work better. The one thing we can share equally is misery. With capitalism we have degrees of misery we can suffer because the getting out of misery is in our hands.
I grew up in an immigrant community who tried to live below their means. People saved money to buy a house which with no other burdening debt can be your forced savings plan for the future especially if you pay off your mortgage right away. it’s not easy, especially these days, but it is worth the sacrifice

It’s so rare to hear criticism of socialism in the United States. Kevin D. Williamson is a very brave man.

Just take the word “politically” out and the title would be accurate.

Libertarianism is better. Fight for smaller government and less regulation. Socialism is nothing more than sanctioning your own slavery. Talk to anyone who lived through Soviet Russia or China. Get the realities of fb the situation. Be careful what you wish for.

Socialism is a mob of lazy good for nothings lusting after the wealth of others that have contributed to society. What the mob doesn’t realize is they are good only for disrupting society, and will be summarily lined up against a wall and shot once their masters are through with them.

Socialism is people who have nothing and want to share it with everyone; and its central contradiction is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.
The nexus of Socialism/Communism/Fascism seek to diminish the individual and absolutely empower the state at the expense of liberty.
Anyone still in thrall to this garbage needs to refer to the historical record. It’s grim to see a true-believer claiming that this extremist Statist nonsense has never worked because it hasn’t been tried fully. In actual fact, it has been attempted on multiple occasions, and has utterly failed each time. This was the working out of flawed theory in real world instances. A 100% failure rate does suggest a glitch in the system (at least to some of us).
A true believer fatuously claiming that their blood-soaked ideology hasn’t been tried yet, is comparable to a neo-Nazi attributing the failure of fascism to its incomplete implementation.
@Doug - And people in the Soviet Union self-medicated with vodka in order to dull the pain of a truly horrible, dehumanising system. Antidepressants are a worldwide phenomenon. Where consumption is low, access is the limiting factor. Drug use is very high in Scandinavia, for instance.

As a true capitalist i am upset you are all aren’t paying for this.
if you were real capitalists you would be buying a paper book made by bangladeshi children.
October 27th, 2018
You should also be concerned about Venezuelan children, where the so-called “Maduro Diet” is resulting in the deaths of undernourished children. Doctors are prohibited from citing starvation as a cause of death. Food and medication are almost unobtainable in this Socialist paradise, which has the most oil reserves in the world.
Famine was also a useful weapon in Soviet Russia, Communist China and North Korea.
Capitalism has its flaws, but it doesn’t preclude sharing.

Capitalism is an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state: an era of free-market capitalism | private ownership is a key feature of capitalism.
The owners control the means of material and mental production thus veiling the truth that this type of economy is full of inequalities of wealth and opportunity.A minority are rich the rest in thraldom to work.In fact only mixed economies exist, the State bailed out the banks in 2008.Obama was called a Socialist in the US as was Roosevelt in the New Deal.
Neo-Liberalism is nonsense, the minimal State does not exist anywhere.

Just like people who worry about wasting time, waste much of their time worrying.
Socialism tries so hard to ‘be fair’ that it, in essence, becomes undeniably unfair.
August 13th, 2019
Well… if ya’ll don’t want socialism then perhaps reigning in the ultra wealthy might be wise.
We’re already a functional oligarchy. Generally speaking when the people have to fix that it isn’t pretty for anyone.
