  Thanks for contributing more by this author, rmoor. The optimism and belief engendered by the Heroic Narrative has been replaced and subverted by the vacuity of postmodernism, relativism and nihilism. Empty materialism and celebrity worship permeate and dominate what is laughably referred to as “the culture”.
  The True, the Good and the Beautiful cannot be sought because absolutes are repudiated by relativists. Why seek the truth if you fundamentally don’t belief it exists?
  Judgments of value are scorned, the heritage of the West rejected, in favour of what?
  It is, in actual fact, the suicide of culture. It’s like a circular firing squad. The proverbial baby ejected with the bathwater.

  Oh no! You’ve just contravened Godwin’s Law (remarkably early in the proceedings, also). There has to exist the possibility of a mature, constructive discussion outside the narrowest parameters defined by psychopaths.
  Don’t forget, they attempted to destroy Western Civilisation as well.
  Ironically, we ourselves are closer to completing the nefarious task which they began.

  Anyone attracted to this sort of thing but not yet a True Believer should keep in mind that screeds like this have been around for many years, and each new one is just a tweaking of some very old, tired arguments. These folks claim to believe in objective truth yet have thrown in their lot with a narcissistic Cheeto who wouldn’t know “truth” if it hit him in the face. They are the true nihilists; they believe only in power. Socrates debunked them centuries ago. If you read this book, do so with care. It’s filled with sophistry.

  And give thinkers on the left a try. You will be mocked mercilessly (as I will be for suggesting it), but you will be surprised by what you find. Examples: Terry Eagleton, bell hooks, Rebecca Solnit, Ta-Nehisi Coates.

  And bring critical thought, self-reflection, and a sense of humor with you.

  Truth is real, but you won’t find much of it at Breitbart.

  Please remember that there was life before, and there will be life after, Donald Trump. Don’t fall into the trap of making him the measure of all things.
  Also, the habit of reading or listening only to thinkers you already agree with, is an utterly futile exercise. You cannot develop your mind that way. Separating everyone into your guys and the bad guys is a false dichotomy, and a certain means of learning nothing of any value. Indeed, it will not be possible to enhance critical thinking if you follow that narrow, prejudicial path.
  For example, it is important to read Plato/Socrates, but also to be very aware that the dialogues make manifest a detestation of democracy and art, and an enthusiasm for censorship.
  There has been a crisis in the social sciences for several decades now (outlined very well by the author), where genuine freedom of thought is neither stimulated or encouraged. This is not education, by any true definition of the term.
  Finally, it is unfair and foolish (and another example of useless bias) to entirely reject and abuse a work without having read it (or, as usual, having no intention of doing so).
