Screw Marriage! Been with the same girl over 32 years not married and we are extremely happy together. No kids either. We travel all the time and do what we want. No tethers of any kind. If we want to get stoned and a have a 4 way or a 3 way its all good. Its not about left or right taxes or politics. Its just about love and doing what you both want to achieve hippieness. For us its traveling the world going to music festivals and having fun. Marriage and kids don’t fit into that.

Not everyone is suited to the mature commitment & responsibility which marriage represents. Stability is of incalculable importance for the developing child. As is the model of a loving relationship, based on trust.
Of course, not all such relationships & unions are emotionally suited to a stoned 4 way. Or even an inebriated 3 way - bangtastic (& bongtastic) though it undoubtedly is.

The only practical difference legalising gay marriage makes is it makes their lives more stable, they can make commitments, get mortgages as a couple, get tax breaks, etc. All good for business, you’d think Conservatives would be all for that, rather than them living in sin.
The way they go on about “marriage under threat” you’d think that sodomy was being made compulsory. Let the gays get married and the evangelicals can have their “unholy trinity” (threesomes with their poolboys). Live and let live.
But the conservatives are all about freedom, for themselves. Not anyone else.

I don’t think “xenophobic” means what you think it means. The thesis of the book seems to be an indictment of moral relativism, which is a fairly rotten door, in the “ideas” community.
However, the “ideas” community itself is an ever-shrinking demographic. You may still spot a few of them kicking around in nature reserves, if yer lucky.
