Harry Potter et la chambre des secrets est le second tome de la série littéraire centrée sur le personnage d’Harry Potter créé par J. K. Rowling.

Bien que le dessin de couverture soit de Jean-Claude Götting, il est intéressant de noter qu’à l’instar du tome précédent, les entêtes de chapitre de la toute première édition de ce tome (parue en 1999) sont illustrés par Emily Walcker. Ces illustrations seront elles aussi supprimées dès la ré-impression. En dépit du fait que le tome 2 a bénéficié d’un tirage plus important que le premier, il fut épuisé très rapidement, et comme pour le tome 1 la première édition est donc assez rare et convoitée à ce titre par les collectionneurs. C’est le dernier tome où figureront, dans la première édition, les illustrations d’Emily Walcker ; les suivants paraîtront dès leur première édition identiques à leurs rééditions futures (du moins à l’intérieur) : dépourvus d’illustrations. Contrairement au premier tome en revanche, la première édition du tome 2 comporte d’emblée le texte intégral de l’œuvre.
